Leaving London

Today we left London. We caught a cab to our Europcar hire place in Marble Arch. Unfortunately there had been a mix-up of dates and the car we thought we were hiring had already been taken so we had to have an upgrade to a Jeep!

Trying to exit London at 9.30 am was a little hairy but we managed. Yes the indicators were going when we needed the wipers but it all added to the fun. Once we'd cleared the main part of the city we made good headway on the M4 to Melksham and arrived at Tony and Megan’s house at about 11.30am. Tony and Megan had booked us into a wonderful inn for lunch. It was located in the National trust town of Lacock. There we met Tony and Megan’s son and daughter-in-law,  Steve and Ruth. We had a wonderful time with them and our meal was delicious. We did a lovely walk around the town and I (Helen) was in raptures of course with so many old buildings. After returning to Tony and Megan’s house we had a chat and then drove onto Salisbury. The roads were very interesting, being narrow and having many slow moving farm vehicles on them and a few very fast cars. We had booked into a beautiful B & B in Salisbury in a Victorian terrace house. After meeting Penny our host,

we walked into the main area of the town. Everywhere you looked you saw history with houses dating back to  the13th century. Rob was even "blown away " by the cathedral. We went to a very old inn for tea, the Haunch of Venison. It was built in 1320! The wooden floor was uneven and the timbers used in this ancient building were most interesting. We had a lovely dinner and wandered back to our accommodation. Another wonderful day.
